Norm,

The other responses indicate that you have the correct speedstep module. 
  However, with my G41, I initially assumed the Centrino module, but 
later came to the conclusion that X86_SPEEDSTEP_ICH was more 
appropriate.  The G41 has an ICH4 chipset, if the results of lspci are 
to be believed.

Having said that, I haven't actually tried to use the speedstepping yet. 
  I have compiled X86_SPEEDSTEP_ICH into the kernel, rather than as a 
module, and although I see no likely references in dmesg or 
/var/log/messages, neither do I see any error messages of the type you 
report.
