Just played with it. The last one usable for my T41p regarding
suspend/resume was 8.14.13 with vbetool. Suspend-to-RAM works perfectly,
without the need for vbetool or something else.

This works flawlessly. And in deed on the fly (without restarting X)

Suspend2 does not work anymore, it fails to suspend. Just after the
message "doing atomic copy" it does not proceed but also the machine
is not locked up. I did not figure out yet what is going on.
(kernel: 2.6.14 with Suspend2 2.2-rc9)
Using old Software suspend results in a kernel BUG in ll_rw_blk.c
(invalid operand: 0000) but this also happens without having X and
fglrx module loaded.

so here you are ;)
By the way. I tried to enable the Composite Extension. Direct rendering
will be disabled then, but it makes strange things with the screen and
ended in a system lock up...
