[ltp] dvd drive dead?

Hello List,

I think my dvd drive (dvd multiburner on a t40p) just died - or maybe it 
needs to be cleaned (What's the best way to clean it?)?  Windows and 
Linux can't read anything from it, dmesg says:

hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: packet command error: error=0x40 { LastFailedSense=0x04 }

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
