33.69 MB/sec on my T42.  I *think* I have a 5200rpm drive.  Google for
FUJITSU MHT2040AH, if you want to be sure, I'm too tired right now.

I do not need to restart X to get VGA out on my T42.  My T42 has an
older Radeon Mobility 7500 which has been well-supported on Linux for
year now.  T42p has a different graphics chip, so things might differ.

Checking out http://thinkwiki.org would be a good idea.
