On my machine, running "i855crt on rawpipe" turns on the external
monitor and "i855crt off" turns it off.  If all you need is for the
projector to display the same thing as your internal LCD, it should be
simple to set up.  On my non-IBM machine, I just bound those two
commands to an ACPI hotkey event.  I'd assume that you could do the same
on your Thinkpad.
