[ltp] Wine and Windows XP

Hi all,

I'm trying to make wine run some of my windows applications, such as
powerpoint or stellarium. I've heard so many good comments about wine
that I suspect it must be able to run at least the most common
applications. Anyway, I haven't been able to make them work (details
below). I have Windows XP in a separate partition, so I decided to copy
over the windows/ directory from that partition to the fake drive_c
created by wine. Still, no go.

I have powerpoint installed in the windows partition. If I go to that
directory and run wine powerpnt.exe, I get an error that "the
application must be installed to run."

More interesting is the story with stellarium. I don't have it
installed yet, so I run the installer and the windows install wizard
appears. It seems to be working, but then when it prompts for a
directory to install the application (e.g., the default Program
Files/stellarium), I get an invalid directory error. Yes, I've checked
that the permissions are set to allow read/write user access. I've also
tried to do this as root, same result.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hector
