Emusic.com - 256kbps MP3's, selling point NO drm. Was fantastic a few
years back when they imposed no download limits - I have 1000 albums
from them: 63GB of music. Nowadays they impose download limits per
month, see site for details. I think they're still a fair bit cheaper
than Itunes etc., but catalogue is varied as they sign up new labels.
If you like jazz, or a particular niche or set of niches they have
agreements with like indie bands, you'll like it. You probably won't
find Britney.

They don't support linux explicitly, but have a linux downloader, and
there's an active community of people who will take it up if it stops
working.

Also allofmp3.com, even whose domain name should tell you it isn't
from an english-speaking country. It's based in Russia, sells mp3s
for a *pittance*, is legal *in Russia* (this was confirmed I think)
and their get-out is that you have to make sure you're legal in your
own country. I've never tried them, but the story goes that it's
not illegal by international trading laws - dunno.

The site looks very cheap but it's been around for years and everyone
who uses it seems happy. They even let you choose your own encoding.
Some of the English is amusing. Probably WILL have Britney.

Unsure about whether they use a particular downloader or you just
grab them from the web.

Don't buy DRM!
