I have a T41p with Debian, not special tuning except cpufreqd to run
it a 600mhz when low cpu usage (being on battery or not), and with a 6
cell battery I have almost 3h autonomy, even on a battery I use almost
every week's day (I have 40min commute time by train) and I bought 3
month ago.

Thus, IMHO something is wrong with your Thinkpad. Now, how the
salesman knew that ?

Cheers,
