See if IBM provided you little tidbits of crucial information, like "this
bios works with EC versions bar, baz..."

If the new *BIOS* supports the old EC version (i.e. the one you have
currently running), update BIOS first, then EC (you will have a fully
compatible system during the entire process).

I don't think IBM says which versions of the BIOS the EC firmware supports,
but if they give that information, it might tell you doing EC first is
better (i.e. the new EC supports the old BIOS version)...

Otherwise, see if you can find someone who did the upgrade you are going to
do (provide your current versions of bios and ec firmware), by asking around
here and in thinkpads.com.
