[ltp] Keeping parts of the recovery partition?

Hi,

so far I haven't touched the R&R partition on my T43, but since I want
the space this is going to change. I could of course just delete the
whole thing, but besides the XP image there also several diagnostic
programs. I have never needed those until now, but just in case...
So my question: Is it possible to alter the R&R partition in such a way
that it looses just the recovery image but retains all other
functionality? Has anyone done / tried this before?
