Hello all,
My problem concerns a friend's brand new Asus F3JM (Intel=C2=AE Core=E2=84=
=A2 2 Duo
T5500). Sorry about posting here but I am a bit desperate.=20
The machine which was new and in its box yesterday
is now dead. - no post - no lights when I hit the ON/OFF button -
nothing
Here's story...
this morning I backed up his Windows C drive using Acronis True Image
version 8.0 (build 763) CD.
Its an older version but Acronis True Image saw the "C" and "D" drives
so I started the backup. Yesterday, I had partitioned the hard drive
previously using gparted 0.31 in order to make home for linux.
Knoppix had this to say
root@1[etc]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders
Units =3D cylinders of 16065 * 512 =3D 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

Solaris /dev/sda8 3901 14593 85891491 c W95
FAT32 (LBA)
# Backup Details
The C (Windows or /dev/sda2) partition size was 11 Go and I was backing
it up to D: (or /dev/sda8) The D size was partition size 88 Go. The
partition D: was empty.
I ran Acronis True Image
I selected back up C (fat32) to D (fat32).=20
The backup started and afterawhile Acronis predicted a total running
time of 32 minutes. After awhile I went away and when I came
back the machine was in a sleep mode.
Well, I couldn't wake the machine up or re start it. In the end, I
disconnected the power supply and took the battery out - still no
change.=20
The machine is IMHO dead. It had only 2-3 hours on it. I installed linux
on but I had never connected it Internet ....
I don't know exactly what I am going to say to my friend.....
Any ideas on what happened... All help or comments are appreciated....
