Luckily, this is changing. A few years ago you had to be a Linux wizard to
get suspend or wifi working on a laptop. Now it often works out of the
box.
Automatic external monitor hot-plugging support is currently being
worked on by the same Keith Packard who brought us anti-aliased fonts
and the RENDER extension.
