I tried the downloadable hsfmodem rpm. Won't work.

  HSF: ERROR: SILICON Laboratories or LUCENT AC97 modem detected!<3>
  HSF: ERROR: This driver only supports CONEXANT devices<3>
  HSF: ERROR: not a Conexant modem<3>
