[ltp] Getting R40 to clone display on external screen

I've got "Boot display" set to "Both" in BIOS, and when I boot my R40
I get the same thing on both the internal and the external
screens. This is what I want.

However, when X starts, if an external screen is connected, the
internal screen goes black.

If I connect an external screen while X is running, I have to restart
X to get picture on it.

Does anyone have an idea about how to just get the connector for an
external display to clone the image of the internal screen at all
times?
