Both are not needed.
The Radeon 9000 is R200 based, therefore 3D support with open source
drivers is provided since XFree86 4.3 (and, of course, Xorg). All you
need is the radeon kernel module (radeon.o with 2.4 kernels or
radeon.ko with 2.6).
