The T43 comes with an Intel or an ATI X300 video card. The T41 has a
FireGL card. I think Xgl/Compiz can run on the Intel, and I definitely
have it running on my R52 with an X300.

that's because that function is not implemented (yet, hopefully) by
the fglrx driver, and you should get it from mesa. Here is how I
solved it:

texture_from_pixmap
and here you can get an easy hint on how to run it:=20

I am experiencing random locks on the X300 though, and a friend of
mine gets them on an X600 too, and all we can do is wait for an update
from ATI or a new release of the r300 driver.
so I don't think you need to dismiss your T41 just for Xgl/Compiz,
you can get them run on it.

It's psychosomatic. You need a lobotomy. I'll get a saw.
