Hi all,
About 4 months ago I started experiencing hangs on boot up with firstly
the bios screen (the "thinkpad" screen) then grub would hang at
detecting stage 1.5 and grub loading. I didnt really notice what the
problem was untill I saw in the logs that sometimes the cd drive was
failing to be detected or giving errors when it was. I thought this was
probably just the cd drive dying and when I removed it from the
ultrabay, I found that I was no longer experiencing the hangs at boot
time. After a couple of months I finally found an upgrade for it at a
reasonable price and bought a dvd+-rw drive. Now unfortunately once I
plugged it in I am again experiencing the hangs at boot, although not
quite as long as I remember them. Getting a few hdc errors in the logs
too, but the drive appears to be working ok. (btw debian sid 2.6.14
kernel) heres some errors.

The only thread that I could find similar to this doesnt seem to have
any real solution (apart from mobo replacement) Its here..

Any thoughts on helping debug appreciated..
