I have an R50e. I must admit that under moderate load the fan turns on
every 10 minutes. However, since I have been useing the "ondemand"
governor everything is fine and there is hardly any fan related noise. By
the way, there is a 1,8ghz Pentium M in my notebook. The greatest thing
about a R50e is that there is a intel graphic chip which consumes far less
power than the ati-ones. Therefore the system is cooler.
