You *SHOULD* name all devices by udev rules. That's all-in-one solution
for all such cases.

E.g. I have personal /dev names for my HDDs based on serial number (you
can also try /dev/disk/by-id if you're feeling lucky ;-) -- so I can
boot OK w/o any mess either when my HDD is inside thinkpad or connected
via external USB case.
