I happen to have an X31, and it's a nice machine. I sold my JVC
MiniNote (a little bigger than the picturebooks, but not much bigger).
The X31 is bigger and slightly heavier than the MiniNote, but much more
friendly to *use* on a daily basis. Liked it so much that I bought my
wife an X31 too (my wife hated the MiniNote because it was *too* darned
small, and she was due a replacement for her X22.)
The X31 is cool enough so that most of the time the fan never runs (you
might hear it run during heavy CPU loads), so it's also a very quiet
machine.
There's no built-in optical drive, but the X31 is bootable from an
external USB (2.0) drive, so there's no problem installing Linux.
