IBM UK (or at least the poeple on the phone) insist you remove the
hard-drive BEFORE sending the machine back in for servicing. I'm
guessing this is so they don't have issues with privacy, lost disks
etc. (That way your data is your responsibility & never theirs)
BTW whenever I've got a new keyboard out of service, they just send a
new one & say keep the old. They're not interested in getting bits
like that back apparently (Although it might have changed with new Eu
legislation of course).
