Ah yes... Plus a couple of other things in order to get enough vmalloc
memory... I think the parameters I used in the end were

HighMem 4GB
memory Model == Flat
Allocate 3rd level pagetables from highmem


Otherwise you get a piddling amount of VmallocTotal:
