According to the Skype Forums they are in the process of rewriting the
app to work with more standard sound daemons.  In the meantime you may
be able to force compatibility by launching Skype with the appropriate
daemon wrapper, which may be "esddsp skype" (but I'm a KDE person so I
may well be off on this).
