It isn't. 
Therefore any Thinkpad is just a laptop as Dell, Sony, Acer etc... are laptops. Therefore there isn't any reason (anymore) to prefere Lenovo over the other. The old classic IBM Thinkpad is dead, as dead as the dodo. 

About time to change the name of the group in linux-laptop or something like that. I'm afraid that is the real issue at present. (-:
