Indeed. And even in FIR mode gnokii requires (and minicom only works
with) /dev/ircomm0 -- which is provided by ircomm-tty and irattach. So
I don't think the docs mean what they say, and I'm not sure what they
mean to say.

No oops, just hangs.

I'm sure I used the patched files, and got a hang within a few hours
of loading that kernel and modules. Of course, I can't be sure that
the hang was caused by nsc-ircc, though this box (does a laptop
qualify as "box"?) was rock stable before loading nsc-ircc.
