False. Even with the latest X.org CVS and DynamicClocks enabled,
"rovlock -m 120 -c 120" reduces the GPU's tempeature by about 1
degree, on an X300 T43.
BTW, the power saving feature of the fglrx driver reduce idle GPU
temperature by about 3 degrees, and power consumption by 0.5-1W,
compared to the best open source alternative (DynamicClocks +
rovlock).
