As a followup I thought I'd also post the output of fdisk -l /dev/hda=20
with the BIOS predesktop setting "disabled":
Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
240 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7752 cylinders
Units =3D cylinders of 15120 * 512 =3D 7741440 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 1939 14658808+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 * 1940 1953 105840 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 1954 2044 687960 82 Linux swap / Sol
/dev/hda4 2045 7275 39546360 83 Linux
No predesktop partition as you can see. It's noteworthy that there never=20
was a predesktop partition visible in fdisk, not from the very=20
beginning when I got the laptop. I wiped the whole disk the first time,=20
removing Windows XP and the partitioning scheme and set it up as seen=20
above. The predesktop area always worked fine in this setup.
Is that a peculiarity of just my laptop or all T41ps?
