[ltp] Internal display becoming scrambled when computer gets warm

Hi,
A scary experience: the internal display sometimes flickers, from a few
glitches that can be seen in high-contrast areas to a barely readable
screen. The lines are randomly shifted horizontally, left or right, and
moving (pretty much like scrambled pay-TV)
It only happens since early May and happens now systematically when CPU
usage is high (kernel compile or infinite shell loop). Since the
phenomena progressively fades away after CPU activity stops (with the
fan still on), I think it is related to internal temperature. A few
other things:
- the external display is not affected
- text mode is not affected either, only X on the internal display
- it happens with a vanilla 2.6.13 and a debian 2.6.8 kernels
How much software- and hardware-related does that sound to you? Any
hints are appreciated. Cheers,
