I don't know about Atheros, didn't even see it as an option, when
shopping for X60s a few months ago. Intel PRO Wireless 3945A/B/G works
well with ipw3945 driver.

External USB drive works well, as a boot device too.

Standard 4-cell battery doesn't even provide 3h in my case (CPU
frequency scaling, HD laptop mode and screen dimming all enabled). Very
poor IMO.
