Ah, sorry, I mixed up the names of the packages.

We installed Dapper on it, and Dapper came with a linux-386 kernel.
Upgrade to Edgy left it that way. So in my description, where I wrote
"-generic" read "-386", and where I wrote "-686" read "-generic".

Ouch.  Ouch, ouch, ouch.  Ouch!

Next thing to try: acpi_sleep=3Ds3_bios in /boot/grub/menu.lst, as
suggested in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ThinkpadX60s.

(That's not as painful as broken suspend).

I'm pretty sure that's not it. Falconseye from Edgy works on our T42s
just fine, and it is setgid 'games':

  $ ls -l `which falconseye`
  -rwxr-sr-x 1 root games 1271 2006-07-21 21:12 /usr/games/falconseye

Anyway, I plan to borrow the laptop/get an SSH account and try to build
falconseye with debug symbols. I just wondered whether anyone else
noticed any SDL games segfaulting on startup.

I need a word processor on my laptop like I need a Selectric typewriter in =
my
laptop bag.
