ibm-acpi will not touch the EC in write mode unless the user tells it to.
So no, the workaround cannot "correct" the status.
If you want to have it always known, set the fan level on module load using
the command line, but be warned that this is not safe in thinkpads that set
the fan to level 7 when the temperature goes critical (I am assuming that
this means the EC auto level isn't good enough for some reason, or else
there would be no need to set the fan to level 7 ever).
