I would suggest as much RAM as possible to eliminate disk activity, console
mode (not in X) and seeing over the power states (C2-C3 being low power
states, try cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/*). One could shut off the
backlight. See that the network interfaces are powered off if not used.
