Hello Jon,
Thanks for the response.
When I press FnF7 I get the following:
Sep 28 19:56:11 linux-4us7 [acpid]: received event "ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 00001007"
Sep 28 19:56:11 linux-4us7 [acpid]: notifying client 2796[0:0]
Sep 28 19:56:11 linux-4us7 [acpid]: notifying client 3147[0:0]
Sep 28 19:56:11 linux-4us7 [acpid]: notifying client 3259[0:0]
Sep 28 19:56:11 linux-4us7 [acpid]: completed event "ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 00001007"
cat /proc/acpi/ibm/video yiels:
status: supported
lcd: enabled
crt: enabled
dvi: disabled
auto: enabled
commands: lcd_enable, lcd_disable
commands: crt_enable, crt_disable
commands: dvi_enable, dvi_disable
commands: auto_enable, auto_disable
commands: video_switch, expand_toggle
Nothing is added to dmesg after video switch attempt.

You may or may not need to enable Xinerama, too. I'm not
sure, I've never managed to get this approach to work on my
x40.

When you press Fn+F7, do you get anything added to
/var/log/acpid ?

Is the module ibm_acpi loaded? Does /proc/acpi exist? if you
cat /proc/acpi/ibm/video, what does it contain (before and
after trying to switch video)? Is there anything added to
the output of 'dmesg' after trying to echo video_switch?
