This sounds like the recovery partition overwrites existing partitions,
including your Linux partition with GRUB stage 2 (bad for people like
us), but forgets to restore a standard MBR boot sector (even worse),
leaving an unbootable system.

I saw this case once with a recovery CD for a Toshiba laptop ca. 8
years ago. Funny that now Lenovo fell into the same trap. I always
thought that IBM/Lenovo users don't need to bother with such stupid and
broken-by-design recovery procedures.
