thanks for your answer, but I do have an ath0 (Debian Sid works 100% here)
but sudo iwconfig shows me something that makes me think I have a problem:
ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"ZyXEL G-570S" Nickname:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point:
00:10:49:8E:70:80
          Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power:14 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
          Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/94 Signal level=-97 dBm Noise level=-97 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:529 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
The access point is that ZyXEL G-570S I don't really like and I disabled
all security settings to be sure it wasn't that problem, so now it's
kind of factory settings (resetted twice).
Why is my link signal so low? I had the motherboard replaced by IBM
about 6 months ago or more, could it be that the wifi atheros was
installed not correctly and with time something disconnected.
May I open the TP and change/remove it? Is it a difficult/dangerous
operation?

Thanks for answering,

Marco
