Sounds VERY similar to mine: most probably buggy firmware.

Filed one at: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8853

I have no idea what the next step is: post on lkml, try to contact
Lenovo, google for email addresses, etc. 

For the record, I've used the web form for customer support on Lenovo's
site and put a query in (referencing this bug). From what was written
there, it *seems* they are interested in getting Linux to work on their
products. Hopefully I made the right choice!
