I have a ThinkPad T61 with Intel X3100 integrated graphics. I have xorg
installed and use the openbox wm and the xfce4 panel. It would be convenie=
nt
for the external video to be cloned or available as another workspace when a
monitor is attached, but I would probably never use it.

I can't get xorg to ignore the external video. This is a problem because b=
oth
openbox and the xfce4 panel act as if two screens are available and in rath=
er
peculiar ways.

The ThinkPad display resolution is 1400x1050. The external monitor, when s=
et
in xorg.conf, is at 1280x1024. As far as I can tell, it makes no
difference whether the external video is set up.

openbox seems okay until I maximize a window. If the window is in the upper
left portion of the screen, it will maximize to fill only part of the scree=
n.
If the window is outside of that area, it fills the entire screen. I'm
guessing that the former area is 1280x1024 and the latter is obviously
1400x1050. openbox also has a dock, I think, but it has never been display=
ed.
Non-maximized windows behave normally.

The xfce4 panel has a 'monitor' configuration option. When monitor 1 is
selected, the panel occupies only the aforementioned 'former' (1280x1024)
space. So although it is configured to exist at the bottom of the screen t=
he
full length of the screen, it is somewhere in the middle and occupies only =
part
of the screen.

If I could just get xorg to use only the LCD and nothing else, it seems that
this would be fixed, and perhaps DRI would work too. But so far I have not=
=20
successfully disabled the external video.

Does anyone have any hints to give? Thanks.
