Hi all.
This is not a Linux problem but a Thinkpad problem, but since there are
many knowledgeabe people on this list I hope someone will have a good
answer.
I am the proud owner of an old but good TP600.
Unfortunately, it sometimes suffers from what I assume is a bad connection
to the display. The display will go completely white or be full of
vertical stripes. If it does the latter, there will also be a faint kind
of "angry" chirping sound.
The problem can usually be rectified by changing the display angle or more
often by brusquely flexing the display. I assume this exercises the
connector a bit.
Now, the question I have is twofold: since this notebook is to be used for
navigation, much of which will be off-road and hence with rather strong
vibration, do I risk damaging anything (and what and how) by ignoring this
situation?
And is a reasonable fix possible? I have all the maintenance manuals IBM
provide and know how to handle a screwdriver, but I'd prefer not to take
the notebook apart needlessly (and without any experience with either it
or the fault), so I'd wait for a recommendation before undertaking this.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Best regards,
Luca
