Great to hear you got it going. I haven't gentoo'd in a while. I don't think the current ati driver supports aiglx, but xgl is an option for the 3d desktop. I'm currently running a 2.6.19.1 patched with suspend2 and haven't got suspend or hibernate working properly yet. You'll probably have better luck with patched kernels in gentoo. I had originally said I would do gentoo or debian if I did 64 bit but time came and I happened to have an Edgy alternate install disk handy so here I am. It's all Linux.
