You probably don't want to install an internal mini-pci card anyway,
since you'll lose your LAN if you do.
So, pretty much any PCMCIA card will do - just google to see if it has
Linux support. I have a Cisco Aironet 350 (from eBay) which has
excellent wifi support, although it is limited to 11Mbit.

Do try to get to like the trackpoint first - once configured to taste
(and with the sensitivity set to full), you'll probably prefer it to
anything else.
As for external mice, you can use (almost) any USB mouse.
