Hi Folks,
Before installing Linux on my refurbished T40 I thought I'd use windows to make sure all the hardware works. Here's what I found out about the CD-RW/DVD unit. I would be grateful for any advice you could give me on this.
The MATSHITA UJDA745 DVD/CDRW on my refurbished T40 Thinkpad seems faulty. It will read: CD-RW data discs, audio discs and photo discs. But it will not read DVDs containing movies which can be read on another computer running Mandriva 2007. Also, IBM RecordNow can't recognize CD-RW discs and so can't burn them. Further details follow.
When I insert a movie DVD, go to My Computer and click on DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) I get a message reading "Please Insert disc in drive D". This happens with commercial movie DVDs which run on my Linux box and also with DVDs containing backup files from my Linux box and also for empty DVDs.
I went to Control Center -> DVD -> trouble shooting but was unable to solve this problem.
WinDVD 4 also returns "No valid Drive/Disc found".
Windows Media Player returns "Please Insert a Disc".
With IBM RecordNow ver. 4.6.1 I first formated an empty CD-RW. When I tried to burn I get "No compatible Recordable or Rewritable devices could be found on your system. Would you like to check if an update is available?"
