"No medium found" sounds to me like a DVD-disk fault. I think the drive
is saying that no optical disk is present (or it is incompatible).
If you can read ordinary CDs, (and maybe DVDs), and you can burn
ordinary CDs, it's pretty unlikely to be a software issue. Does hdparm
-i work?
Also, not to state the obvious, but some brands of disks look pretty
much the same both ways up... Also, DVD-R vs DVD+R ?
Have you cleaned the lens? Is the disk a brand new one?
If it's an RW disk, do you need to format or erase it?
