[ltp] T23 running Kubuntu 7.04 - problems with Savage Direct Rendering (and USB)

I tried to use Git :

1. git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm
2. cd drm/linux-core
3. make drm_modules="savage"

and finally arrgh .... :

Makefile:152: *** Cannot find a kernel config file.  Stop.

I have current Slack (11may) installed along with 2.6.21.1 kernel sources and 
proper symlink from /lib/modules/2.6.21.1/build

What am I missing here ?
