On an Intel card correctly installed, yes, any proper kill switch will
*always* work, since they (AFAIK) support the thing in *hardware* like a
proper radio should.

And of course it will try to use the same SSID, the switch only
enables/disables the RF part, it doesn't reset the interface in the kernel
or anything like that.  You could complain to the ipw3945 developers that
they should force an disassociate when the radio is killed, though.
