Well, I don't know. On my X31 I used tp-smapi only once: for checking
the new battery I bought ;)
On the Z61m I use tp-smapi for better hdaps handling.

I don't have any wps from thinkpad-acpi. Neither I do have a
thinkpad-acpi*d*.
What you may see is some script polling thinkpad-acpi for some data
(eg. temperature) and thinkpad-acpi gets blamed for this.
