It will take some more digging to figure out what is going on, but
that number of wakeups is about 10x what I have on my x61. I
suspect you could get much better overall battery usage if you can
figure out where all those interrupts are coming from.  If you want to
dive in to this, you may find the powertop mailing list helpful.

On the other hand, this is neither here nor there as far as the 9 cell
running out as fast as the 6 cell.

It could be interesting to see the output from 

 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*/info

and 

 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*/state

for both batteries.
