The T43 does have an HPET, but you need patches in the -rt (real-time)
kernel to force-enable it.  And I am not sure it actually saves any power in
the specific case of the T43.

I don't know about the earlier T4x models.  Check Intel documentation for
the ICH and MCH chips on those ThinkPads, if you really want to know.
