Install the hwinfo program. It provides a list of VESA BIOS modes and
their Linux kernel mode number. There was a program that did this for
plain x86 but it uses real mode BIOS calls and doesn't work on amd64.

Lenovo have been nice enough to provide a native-panel VESA mode for
at least the widescreen T61.
