[ltp] Framebuffer on T60 (Intel 945 / SXGA+) drives me nuts

Help, please,

I have had this T60 for 4 weeks now and after tinkering with it a lot, I have 
managed to get almost all components to work.

Almost.

I am unable to set the framebuffer console into its native resolution of 
1400x1050 and I haven't found any solution for this yet. I have 
unsuccessfully tried all combinations in grub's menu file, i.e. intelfb, 
vesa, vesa-tng, but I am stuck with a superlow resolution that is totally 
unsatisfactory.

There is one thing I am not sure about: I bought the T60 with a specific 
configuration in mind and the dealer did not have this model on stock. What 
he did was to change the display from an XGA version to an SXGA+ version. Is 
it possible that this is the culprit?

Does ANYONE have an Intel 945 running at 1400x1050 framebuffer console?
