Dear Dan,

I think (although I haven't tried this) that you should be able to use 
any XP Pro(*) install CD with the license key that is attached to your 
thinkpad. That might help you.

(*)Or XP Home, as appropriate.

Other alternatives for XP programs: Reactos, Wine (free), Codeweavers 
Wine (paid support), or run them remotely via VNC.
